Oklahoma law requires an “equitable” division of jointly acquired property. This does not necessarily mean an equal (50/50) division, but it does mean a fair division considering all the circumstances. Liabilities (debts) must be divided as well as assets. Specific items of property may be awarded or a fixed sum of money instead. This payment, called alimony in lieu of property division, may not be modified and does not terminate until fully paid.
